Botox Cosmetic FAQs

Dr. Krushel has been a Board-Certified Obstetrician and Gynecological surgeon for 25 years. Since 2020, Dr. Rob has been providing regular Botox and Dermal Filler services to hundreds of satisfied clients at his Alberta, British Columbia, and the Northwest Territories MedSpa locations.

Dr. Krushel uses a very small needle to precisely administer Botox into specific facial muscles. Botox, when precisely administered by an experienced physician, can be a safe and highly-effective treatment.

You can not receive Botox if you have any of the following contraindications:

  • You must be over the age of 19 to receive Cosmetic Botox
  • Allergy to Botox
  • Pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or currently breastfeeding.
  • Severe allergy to eggs or milk (can be discussed with Dr. Rob before, or at time of appointment) so as to minimize risk or use a different product.
  • Some progressive and severe neurological diseases (i.e. myasthenia gravis)

Although Botox is a low-risk procedure for most individuals, Dr. Rob seeks to minimize risks and complications. Prior to administering Botox, Dr. Krushel will review your treatment goals, your medical history, and he will assess your skin and treatment areas. He will then carefully and thoughtfully administer treatment. Possible side effects and complications of Cosmetic Botox include:

  • Redness and swelling, bruising and discolouration, itching, pain and tenderness at the injection sites.
  • Rare side effects of upper forehead treatments can include ptosis (eyelid drooping), which can last for several weeks.

Botox does not increase the volume of the face and does not cause plump or filling effects. Depending upon one’s goals, Dr. Rob seeks to reduce wrinkles and fine lines while leaving natural expressions intact, resulting in a smoother and more youthful appearance.

The beneficial effects of Botox are usually noticeable within 1 week of the treatment and clients often begin to feel and observe changes within a few days. The full effect of relaxing the muscles that cause lines and wrinkles is usually noted within two weeks. We strive to create results that make the treatment area appear smoother, with reduced facial lines and wrinkles, while still looking natural.

For 1 Hour: Exercise the treated muscles by frowning, raising your eyebrows, and smiling.
For 3 Hours: Ideally, do apply substantial pressure to the treated area. We recommend avoiding strenuous physical activity, hot tubs and saunas, facials, alcohol, and aspirin/anti-inflammatories for several hours.

Dr. Krushel prides himself on placing every unit of Botox in the most effective locations, to ensure that clients get the desired effect in the most cost-effective way. Treatments typically range from 15 – 50 units, depending on the strength of your muscles and the number of areas you are looking to have treated, and cost $10 per unit.

Botox can also be a highly effective treatment for medical conditions such as Chronic Migraine Headaches. It is also highly effective for Bruxism (teeth grinding) and Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating). Dermal Fillers FAQs

Dermal Fillers and the Aging Process:  Dermal Fillers are a useful treatment to refresh and rejuvenate one’s appearance. They are often used to support and volumize facial structures, providing a more youthful and refreshed appearance.

After the age of 20, our skin loses approximately 1% of its collagen per year. Also, the youthful lift provided by our facial structure and cheek bones can diminish over time, and our youthful cheek pads can slide towards the lower face- this often results in prominent nasolabial folds and a drooping or sagging appearance of the cheeks and jowls. This aging process can also contribute deep lines and grooves in the lower face, such as prominent perioral or smile lines, as well as marionette lines (the grooves below the corner of the mouth) . Small amounts of precisely placed dermal fillers and Radiesse can enhance our appearance by providing lift, restoring volume, and in the case of Radiesse, by stimulating the skin to produce collagen and elastin.

Dr. Rob performs facial rejuvenation with Hyaluronic Acid (HLA) Dermal Fillers. HLA is a naturally occurring chemical in the body and skin that is renowned for its ability to absorb water, providing hydration and volume to the skin and the structures of the face. He uses HLA to restore and enhance volume in areas such as the lips, or to provide structure and support to enhance and elevate cheeks, jawline, and hollowed temples. For clients with wrinkled and saggy skin, biostimulation of the skin with Radiesse can rejuvenate by stimulating your body to produce long-lasting collagen and elastin that tightens and enhances the appearance of the skin. Dermal Fillers often complements cosmetic Botox treatments as well as Andrea’s skin rejuvenation procedures, such as Skin Resurfacing, Laser, and Tribella.

Dermal Fillers are commonly used to volumize and rejuvenate such areas as the cheeks and temples to provide lift and support, providing a more youthful and rested appearance. They can also be used to produce natural appearing lip enhancement that can last for up to a year. They are commonly administered to soften the sunken areas, such as the tear troughs, or creases, such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines. They are commonly used in the jawline and chin. Specialized HLA dermal fillers can also be used to directly hydrate and rejuvenate the skin itself- this can be particularly useful for perioral lines, smile lines, smoker’s lines, and some neck lines.

Much of the rejuvenating effect of dermal fillers is immediately apparent after injection. Your body will naturally absorb dermal fillers over time. Depending upon the type and the amount of filler used in a given location, and how quickly one’s body metabolizes it, HLA dermal fillers can provide an excellent treatment effect that lasts between 6 to 24 months.

The cost of dermal filler treatments depends upon several factors including the number of areas of treatment, and the amount of product required. Usually, one treatment is all that is required to rejuvenate one’s appearance. Dr. Rob seeks to minimize the amount of filler used, and he will not recommend any filler in excess to what you require to meet your goals. He will always be open and honest as to what dermal fillers can and cannot achieve.

Dermal Fillers are administered using small needles or cannula through the skin and into the desired treatment area. Dr. Rob takes a number of measures to ensure that the procedure is as pleasant as possible, including applying anesthetic to the skin prior to the procedure. Also, Dr. Rob uses dermal fillers that contain anesthetic. Most clients describe the procedure as being only mildly painful or uncomfortable.
